The FCC wants to make the internet suck. Suck big giant hairy smelly balls. I’m not sure many people realize how bad they want to make the internet. Companies could make you pay extra for visiting certain sites. If they are in competition with Netflix, your ISP could block Netflix all together. It’s super bad.
This is really important. Congress is the only thing that can stop this. Which probably means we’re screwed, but I would like you to do me a favor anyway.
Figure out who represents you. Send them a message. Give them a call. Send them a fax (yes this really works). Mail them a postcard. Do all of these things if you have the time. Imagine a typical FPS game where you start loaded out with grenades, machine gun, sniper rifle, etc, and are dropped into a war zone… but, in a starting cut scene, your character has taken a vow of nonviolence.

Then again, I should have expected that. I had my card with me Fridays are trying days. I was not happy. And I am still not happy about it because as well as those two, I lit into the Tui I’d purchased for Dad, again.

Dad ended up taking me to Tuatara, instead of me walking there alone like I was intending. Something to do with the fact that in two weeks I will be having not two, but three carcinomas dikes out me - neck, arm, back. Oh bliss.
So I paid for the first jug (and the pizza), he paid for the next, and a couple of tasters of their sour (which has mandarins and fejoa in) and something which I suspect was their old Ardennes ale with apricots in. We liked the first. not the second.
Afterwards, I found myself wanting to go back out and get more. It’s strange. When I was a student barely twenty-odd years ago, I thought nothing of drinking that great Kiwi belly-wash, Tui, three or four jugfuls at a sitting. Now I’m more discriminating but still lapse into that “just get pissed” mentality.
My next intended pub sesh is Friday. Hopefully I can hold out until then, it’s very tempting to take my card tomorrow and bring something home.
After that table-flipping post of mine, I think I need to ask myself why I’m doing this. Imposing this burden on me.
When I wrote it, I was writing from an obvious sense of frustration with myself - self-hatred - I was shocked by my unthinking actions on Friday night. I’d betrayed my Dad and myself. In a sense, my semi-temperance is a sort of punishment.
At the same time, I felt and still feel that I can do better in my life and savings regime. It’s going to be a challenge, and it has a set goal time, which I may have to adjust depending on externals. Doctor’s bills, counsellor’s bills, SL rents, that sort of thing.
The first big ask of the week will be on Wednesday. Weeks ago, I thought that it would be clever to slope off for a late afternoon pizza and beer at Tuatara’s cellar door (they have a special on Wednesdays and nice pizzas.) Then there’s Friday evening, and then Sunday, I think. It depends on the weather.
Let me explain the reasoning. Tuatara’s special is a fixed price. I also know how much I can drink on a Friday. Any other drinkies, I know I’m getting rorted at the bar and think twice. Think twice, spend less, find other things to do.
I have a number of problems in my life. One of them is my goddamn credit card.
Until Thursday night, I still had half of it to pay off; now it’s almost three-quarters again. I have my reasons; namely the MIDI keyboard controller doohickey comes with Ableton Live Lite, which is the next USD$400 step up from Intro, which I have. The doohickey is about half that. An upgrade and controller for half price? What do you expect?
Also, I’ve noticed that I binge drink too often. I’m quite able to sit in my study, peeting beer, all evening. It’s expensive and bloody wasteful
