Back in the day when I thought I might produce a Flash game or two - before I realised everyone else had pretty much stripped the genres I could hack bare - this controller was at the centre of my design philosophy.

For some reason I have bid on a storied Toshiba netbook called Penny.
I’ve wanted a lappy for some time. The idea being that I can use it for writing, coding, a little Minecraft and basic gaming, and of course DJing, without having to be tied to the Big Rig in the spare room.
The Big Rig, in any case, will still be the go-to for hardcore gaming and Second Life. It’s just that instead of running both Virtual DJ and SL, there’ll be a lappy dwarfed by the Numark.
C'est, as they say, la vie. My parents will probably disapprove for a bit, but screw that. Penny the laptop will be my Christmas pressie to myself.
Not again. DJ controller, the temp Noir 1.8 server, and a peek at Fracture’s server. This was cobbled together from footage a fortnight old in places.
Minecraft? Understandable. A nostalgic return to Morrowind? That can be grokked. Beer cosplay? Um…
Ecclescraft has got a more general remake. It’s now Eccles versus Games. This episode has some Minecraft, Skyrim, and a quick look at some walking simulators. It also has a copyright warning because of Kairo’s soundtrack. Intro and outro music by MADE FOR CHICKENS BY ROBOTS.
The latest Eccles vs Games has me putting a few on the ol’ chopping block, and why. Pity really. Still, I have backups. One of my most technically complex videos yet.

Gamers are picked on for not having “lives.” This, of course, is a misconception. Firstly, many of us retain social lives with actual people. Secondly, those who criticize us don’t understand. Gaming can be an escape; like a book or story that you play through instead of read. Sometimes the life you lead out in the real world doesn’t seem to have much meaning. You go through all the normal motions of being part of society without feeling very fulfilled or important to those around you.. Maybe being a Grey Warden, or Dragonborn, or the Hero of Time feels more fulfilling; you live a true life of adventure and all your actions effect the fate of the world around you.
It’s not that we don’t have lives because we do. And we’re thoroughly unsatisfied with experiences they offer.
