The Matrix was a rollicking action movie. The sequels were incoherent messes.
In a better world, the final film would have been The Matrix: Singularity. Neo learns that the machines aren’t enslaving humanity after all; that the so-called real world is just another simulation generated by post-Singularity humanity.
And that his abilities, and what he did to Agent Smith, are threatening the survival of both the human and posthuman races. The Matrix, it turns out, is a sort of tutorial level for newly uploaded human minds - and Neo has broken it all.
And now he has to fix it, before he can ascend to the next level and discover what's really out there.
