the fact that people on this website do not understand that old people should be a protected class really boggles the mind like i know most of you think of old people as like your 60 year old grandparents cause you’re young but we really have to care for these members of our society that are particularly vulnerable
me @ the absolute mess in the notes

I don’t know how to explain to you that granting some people privileges over others is not the same as caring for them.
i made this post cause old people with no money who need medical care and shit and piss on themselves and cant clean it need help the fuck are you on about
I encourage everyone to get to know some of the elderly folks in their life because a lot of them are rad as fuck and just don’t know how to interact with younger folks because the world is Just That Different Now.
They get targeted for all kind of scams, get shoddy care in nursing homes, and have to watch as their family fights over their belongings while they’re still alive- and that’s if they have anything left to fight over at all. Their pensions and retirement savings weren’t designed with our current healthcare costs in mind! When I worked in grocery about a third (1/3!) of all food stamp customers were above the age of 70 and you will never feel like a monster until you have to tell an 80 year old woman that lives alone that her food card was declined on a $2 bag of chips.
Just. Be kind, alright? They’re in the same boat as us and our real enemies are the rich assholes that won’t pay their fucking taxes.
the exploitation and poverty of the elderly is literally why we have social security, cause old people cant work and end up going homeless without it. its horrible.
I have a hypothesis, namely that people in the United States are emulating non-human role models. Namely, corporations.
Corporations don’t empathise any more than they respire. They’re myopic, selfish, paranoid, stupid, have a zero-sum mindset (I must win, you must lose), and incredibly powerful. And since the corporates hold all the power, of course people are instinctively going to copy them.
Add to that an increasingly desperate struggle to survive and all the stress that causes, and you have a population that literally cannot empathise because they’re too busy just surviving, if they even reach that level. What they can do is compete – or engage in some mutually beneficial trade, until it’s more profitable for one side to stiff the other. Which fosters a permanent attitude of fear and distrust, antithetical to empathy.
Since the people cannot empathise, and are passively and/or actively discouraged from doing so, they cannot unite in any meaningful way. Which means no society worthy of the name. Which, from behind these turd-tinted spectacles, means no more US-of-A in the near future.
