The inside of a mall is as close as we can conceive of what the inside of an arcology might look like at the present time.
When you think about that, it’s really rather sad. We can imagine a city or suburb compacted into a single(ish) building, but the interior is never anything but depressingly commerce-centric. Commons? Parks? Forget ‘em, we’re going with the neon mall cheepnis theme.

We live in the 21st century.
Our socio-political and economic systems are, at their youngest, 200 years old.
Our religious-cultural systems are, roughly, 2000 years old, generally copying from older religious-cultural systems.
By the 1980s, the spectre of nuclear war destroyed our species’ capacity to imagine and plan towards any kind of future.
We live in the past - in at least three pasts at any given time, actually - barely acknowledging the present, treating the future as just a fairy tale.
Some of you may believe there is hope for the human race.
That’s fine.
The apocalypse is coming.

The phrase ‘wow’ comes to mind.
Be honest with yourself: the floating sky cities of Venus sound much more glamorous than coldly clinging to the dead rock of Mars. Think how restricted scientists are when living in Antarctica — any tin can bolted to the face of Mars will be lucky to give its residents anything like that much freedom. On Venus, we could conceivably build larger, faster, and further — and we could use our experience in the Venusian clouds to colonise the gas giants of the Solar System. In the long run, starting nearer to Earth could take us further.
I know I am the worst socially. I just sit here and hit buttons. The need for teleportation has never been more real than when I sloppily interact with online friends… All I want in life is to just kinda of cuddle and enjoy music with people and live out the last days of our crumbling dystopian cyberpunk earth in drama free relative happiness.
You’re doing better than me.
All my social interactions are transactional. If you were to make an approach to me, I would be thinking, what do you want from me, get to the point, what do you want damn you? Tell me so I can give it to you and make you go away.
All I want in life is to never worry about money again, to escape the demands of this work garbage, to win Powerball and live off the return from repeated term deposits all the rest of my ageing life, in a small flat or house handy to everything, full of toys to while away my meaningless and blessedly purposeless hours until my death about 2050.

I worked very hard for 10 years to build an audience here on Tumblr. It’s weird watching it crumble before my eyes. I’m not really sure how to process this. I no longer have the energy to build somewhere else. So I am kinda stuck on this sinking ship.
I understand why people are compelled to leave. But it is all still depressing.
I just wish Tumblr cared enough about its user base to come up with a different solution.
They basically said, “Be gone, pervs!” and that’s not cool.
Enjoying adult content does not necessarily make someone a pervert. It just makes someone a human being. There is art and beauty in so many of the things being flagged. And apparently dinosaurs and legs and dogs are being flagged too.
They told us they were only coming for our nipples.
They lied.
Perhaps Tumblr should change its motto.

I’ve started a game called Occupy White Walls, a sort of MMO art gallery building thingy. The grind is starting to hit; you basically have to excavate space one 4-metre cube at a time, and raise money by throwing open the doors as often as possible. Some people have been here long enough to create visual cacaphonies; I would too, but there doesn’t seem to be all that much modern art or abstract expressionism available.
